From November 2025, the UK increased the living expense amount students must show before applying. Authorities now require proof of £1,529 per month for living costs, calculated for up to nine months.
In Indian currency, this is approximately 14 to 15 lakh rupees depending on exchange rate. This amount is separate from tuition fees and must be shown together with the remaining course fee.
For example, if the remaining tuition after deposit is around £10,000, the total required balance becomes roughly £23,700. The government wants to ensure students can comfortably manage accommodation, food, transport, and daily academic life without financial pressure.
There is also a strict condition regarding timing. The money must stay in the bank account continuously for 28 days before applying. Even one day of insufficient balance restarts the calculation. Many applications face problems not because of low marks but because funds are arranged suddenly or statements are not prepared correctly.
The account may belong to the student or parents, and fixed deposits are acceptable when supported with official bank letters.
How Authorities Review Applications
Once the application is submitted, the review does not happen instantly. The authorities examine the file in a structured way to ensure everything is genuine and complete.
First, they confirm that all forms and required documents are properly uploaded and readable. Missing or unclear documents can delay processing.
Next, they check whether the academic records, financial documents, and identity details are consistent. They look for logical study progression — for example, whether the selected course matches the student’s previous education background.
They also confirm that the student has a clear academic plan and genuine intention to study. If the course choice does not make sense compared to past studies, they may ask for clarification.
