CANADA IMMIGRATION UPDATE | 5,000 FRENCH-LANGUAGE EXPRESS ENTRY INVITATIONS & HUMANITARIAN MEASURES EXTENDED

Canada’s latest reported immigration updates include two Express Entry invitation rounds held on consecutive days, an extension of temporary humanitarian measures for eligible Haitian and Sudanese nationals, and upcoming changes to CRS scoring.

The French-language draw targeted candidates meeting the applicable language-category requirements, while the PNP draw focused on candidates with provincial nominations.

2. Humanitarian Work-Permit Measures Extended

On 27 October, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced targeted extensions of temporary measures for eligible Haitian and Sudanese nationals in Canada who cannot return home because of ongoing crises.

Key details include:

  • Eligible individuals holding work permits issued under previous temporary measures may apply for extensions.

  • The extended measures are scheduled to remain in place until 30 December 2027.

  • Eligible individuals may also have options to extend visitor status or apply for study permits, subject to the relevant requirements.

These measures apply to eligible individuals and should not be interpreted as a blanket extension for all Haitian or Sudanese nationals.

3. Express Entry CRS Changes — 3 November 2026

Canada’s announced changes to high-wage CRS scoring are scheduled to take effect on 3 November 2026.

  • Additional points are planned for eligible high-wage Canadian work experience or qualifying high-wage job offers.

  • Candidates cannot combine the two awards; the higher applicable award will be used.

  • Candidates seeking qualifying job-offer points should ensure the required profile information is updated before the changes take effect.

  • IRCC may pause invitation rounds for up to two weeks while existing profiles are recalculated.

A higher CRS score does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

What Applicants Should Do

  • Review your Express Entry profile and CRS score.

  • Check eligibility for applicable humanitarian measures if you are affected.

  • Prepare for the scheduled CRS changes and ensure your profile information is accurate.
