Immigration New Zealand has announced that estimated selection dates are now available for applicants under the Parent Resident Visa category. This update will help parents and their eligible sponsors in New Zealand better understand when their Expressions of Interest (EOIs) may be selected for residence processing.
The information is particularly useful for families who are waiting for selection and planning to reunite in New Zealand. By checking the estimated dates, applicants can get a clearer idea of the potential timeline under the queue-based selection process.
š Key Changes to the Parent Resident Visa Selection Process
New Zealand operates a hybrid selection system for Parent Resident Visa EOIs, combining queue-based selection with regular ballot draws.
Under this system:
90% of EOIs: Expected to be selected through the queue system.
10% of EOIs: Expected to be selected through regular ballot draws.
Estimated queue dates: Applicants can now check the expected dates for queue-based selection.
Ballot selection: An EOI may be selected through a ballot before its estimated queue selection date.
Estimated timelines: Published selection dates are indicative and may change.
This arrangement gives applicants two possible routes to selection: waiting for their EOI to reach the relevant position in the queue or being selected through a ballot draw.
š What Happens After Selection?
If an applicant’s EOI is selected and they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), they will have four months to submit their Parent Resident Visa application.
This period is important because applicants and their sponsors should be prepared to provide the required documents and supporting information within the permitted timeframe.
š®š³ Impact on Indian Families
For Indian parents with eligible sponsors living in New Zealand, the availability of estimated selection dates can make family reunification planning easier.
Parents and sponsors can use this information to understand the potential selection timeline, organise relevant documents and prepare for the next stage of the residence application process.
However, an estimated queue date does not guarantee selection on that particular date, as an EOI may also be selected earlier through the ballot system.
ā ļø Important Points to Remember
Selection can take place through either the queue or ballot system.
Around 90% of EOIs are expected to be selected through the queue, while approximately 10% are selected through ballots.
Estimated queue dates may change.
Applicants receiving an ITA have four months to submit their residence application.
